Rough-in and finish
Kitchen plumbing happens in two visits.
Rough-in comes after demolition and before cabinets. We run drains, vents, water lines and gas piping to the new locations, pressure test them, and have the work inspected where a permit is required.
Finish comes after the cabinets and countertops are installed. We set sinks and faucets, connect the dishwasher and fridge line, and connect and test the gas range.
Having appliance specifications in hand before rough-in matters. Built-in fridges, pro-style ranges and some dishwashers need connections in very specific places.
Going gas in the kitchen
Many Nanaimo homeowners use a kitchen renovation to switch to a gas range. If the house already has natural gas service, a new branch line is usually straightforward to run while floors and walls are open. If there is no gas in the house, we can advise on getting service or on propane. Every gas installation is done by TSBC-licensed gas fitters under permit.

Common questions
Can a kitchen sink be moved to an island?
Usually, yes. An island sink needs a drain with proper slope, which is simple over a crawlspace or unfinished basement and more involved on a concrete slab. It also needs venting, which in an island is typically handled with an island vent loop or an air admittance valve where code allows. Waywest checks this before the cabinet layout is ordered.
Can I switch from an electric range to gas during a kitchen renovation?
Yes, if natural gas or propane is available. A licensed gas fitter runs a new line to the range location, installs a shut-off valve, pressure tests the piping and connects the range under a Technical Safety BC permit. The range still needs a standard electrical outlet for its igniters and controls.
What plumbing decisions should be made before kitchen cabinets are installed?
Sink and faucet locations, dishwasher position, fridge water line, pot filler, gas range location, and any water filter or instant hot water tap. These set where drains, supply lines and gas piping come through the wall or floor, which is hard to change once cabinets are in.
