Why homeowners choose ductless

Where mini-splits make sense

Common questions
How many indoor heads do I need?
It depends on the layout. Open-plan areas can often be served by one head, while closed-off bedrooms usually need their own. A common approach for a baseboard-heated house is one head for the main living area plus heads for bedroom zones. Waywest recommends a layout after seeing the home.
Can a mini-split heat my whole house?
In many Island homes, yes, with the right number and placement of heads. In homes with many separate rooms, a combination of mini-split heads and existing baseboard in rarely used rooms is sometimes the better value.
How often do mini-split filters need cleaning?
Indoor head filters should be rinsed every month or two during heavy use. Coils, blower wheels and drain lines need professional cleaning periodically, since dust and moisture buildup reduce efficiency and can cause odours or leaks.
Are ductless mini-splits noisy?
Modern indoor heads are very quiet at normal operation, similar to a soft fan. The outdoor unit is placed where its sound will not bother you or your neighbours, and on a proper bracket or pad to limit vibration.
