Why ductwork matters
A furnace or heat pump can only deliver comfort through the ducts attached to it. Undersized, leaky or poorly laid-out ducts cause:
- Rooms that never reach temperature
- Noisy, whistling registers

Common questions
Can my existing ductwork be used with a heat pump?
Often, but not always. Heat pumps typically need more airflow than the furnace they replace, and ducts that were sized for a furnace can be too small, causing noise and poor performance. Waywest checks duct sizes and static pressure before recommending whether ducts can be reused or need modification.
Why is one room always colder than the rest of the house?
The usual causes are an undersized or long supply run, a crushed or disconnected duct, poor return air from that room, or a room with much higher heat loss than the rest of the house. Measuring airflow at the register shows which it is.
How much heat is lost through leaky ducts?
Duct leakage can waste a meaningful share of the heating and cooling a system produces, especially when ducts run through unheated crawlspaces or attics. Sealing joints and insulating ducts in unconditioned spaces is one of the more cost-effective efficiency improvements.
Should I get my ducts cleaned?
Duct cleaning helps when there is visible debris, construction dust after a renovation, pest contamination or mould. It is not a substitute for good filtration and sealed return ducts, which prevent most dust problems in the first place.
