BC Hydro heat pump rebate
For homes currently heated by electricity — baseboards or an electric furnace.
- Whole-home heating: up to $4,000. The heat pump must keep the home at 22°C when it is –5°C outside, without electric resistance backup. Homes over 1,200 sq. ft. need a multi-split or central system.
- Partial-home heating: up to $1,500. The heat pump must meet at least 50% of the home's heating needs and serve open, finished living space.
- Bonus: up to $1,000, limited time. First-come, first-served. The project must be completed, invoiced and paid by October 31, 2026, with the application submitted by November 30, 2026.
Equipment requirements: a model on the rebate-eligible heat pump list, with a variable-speed compressor and efficiency of HSPF (Region IV) ≥ 10 and SEER ≥ 16, or HSPF2 ≥ 8.5 and SEER2 ≥ 15.2.
Contractor requirement: installed by a Home Performance Contractor Network member. BC Hydro asks homeowners to get three quotes from registered contractors.
How to apply: online at app.bchydro.com/hero within six months of the invoice date. Whole-home projects include a completed heat load calculation summary form, which your contractor provides.
BC Hydro heat pump rebate details
CleanBC Home Renovation Rebate program
For B.C. households at any income level. Delivered through CleanBC Better Homes with BC Hydro and FortisBC.
- Heat pump replacing electric heat: up to $4,000
- Heat pump water heater replacing electric: up to $1,000
- Insulation: up to $5,500
- Windows and doors: up to $2,000
Rebates for switching to a heat pump from oil, natural gas or propane are currently listed only for northern B.C. (100 Mile House and north), so most Vancouver Island homes on those fuels do not qualify under this program. Income-qualified households should look at the Energy Savings Program below.
Bonuses and top-ups: the program lists a two-upgrade bonus, a home energy improvement bonus and a BC Hydro rebate bonus. Some local governments add top-ups, which are applied automatically when funds are available.
Requirements: the home must be a year-round primary residence at least 12 months old; a household member must hold the residential electricity account; renters need the account holder's consent form. Apply within six months of completing the upgrade.

Energy Savings Program details
