Who qualifies
The BC Hydro heat pump rebate is for homes replacing an all-electric heating system — baseboards or an electric furnace. The equipment must:
- Be on BC Hydro's rebate-eligible heat pump list
- Have a variable-speed compressor
- Meet efficiency minimums: HSPF ≥ 10 and SEER ≥ 16, or HSPF2 ≥ 8.5 and SEER2 ≥ 15.2
- Be installed by a Home Performance Contractor Network member
Whole-home systems in houses over 1,200 sq. ft. need a multi-split or central system, and the application needs a heat load calculation summary from your contractor.
Why the deadline is tighter than it looks
October 31 is the date the project must be completed, invoiced and paid — not the date you sign a quote. Working back from that:
- Site visit and heat load calculation — a few days to a week to book in fall
- Equipment — popular variable-speed models can take time to arrive
- Installation — typically one to a few days, depending on the system
- Electrical work — some homes need panel or circuit upgrades
- Invoice and payment — before October 31

Heated by gas, oil or propane?
The BC Hydro rebate does not cover homes replacing fossil-fuel heat. The CleanBC Home Renovation Rebate currently lists its oil, gas and propane heat pump rebates for northern B.C. only.
